Life’s Pavement

Sitting with a cup of tea in the local cafe,

Looking out onto the busy road before me,

So many people driving and walking by,

Hurrying and scurrying here and there,

Like ants; anonymous faces, going to

Anonymous places, doing anonymous things,

Nothing unusual, just an ordinary day.

But today I see with a sudden burst of clarity,

How each person is an entire universe,

Unto themselves…

Carrying within a world of gifts and talents,

A world rich in experiences and desires,

To achieve, help, create, heal and survive,

To love and be loved,

To be entertained or perhaps entertain,

A world of family, friends and acquaintances,

A world of their own personal history and legacy,

Of challenges obviously faced and overcome,

Or they would not still be HERE, now…

Hurrying and scurrying about like ants,

Across life’s temporary pavement,

Making their imprints in this world…

Then moving on to new worlds,

Taking an entire universe with them,

When they go…
