Gigil for Life

(LETTER TO MY YOUNGER SELF):

Had I known

That only by tomorrow

You’d be grown…

I would have went with

My first urge and instinct

To squeeze all the juice and gusto

Out of life

Before am gone.

Had I known,

I would have played

The part of bystander less

Observing less

Instead diving more

Into the deep end

Of the ocean

With reckless abandon…

Not even stopping to

Worry if my hair got wet.

Had I known,

I would have ignored

My second more acceptable

Rational impulse

To pay close and careful attention

To what other people think.

Thankfully, I’m not

10 feet under yet!

Beyond the Labyrinth

With all life’s twists,

And all it’s turns…

Labyrinth…

Of failed attempt, of dreams lost,

Back bent, broken,

By exhaustion, sorrow, confusion, regret.

With healing, forgiveness, love,

I found this place…

A beautiful, peaceful space

Inside my soul…

HEART SANTUARY.

For this, God,

Eternally grateful.

Emptying My Suitcase in Heaven

If I was given the chance,

Before making the trip to heaven,

To pack up one suitcase,

Full of heart memories,

To take with me,

Upon my arrival,

Through those pearly gates,

Stopping immediately,

To empty my suitcase,

The first thing to take out,

Would be the memory of your smile;

Those pearly whites,

Shining their bright light,

Back at me,

Having lifted and carried me forward,

Through most of my days.

And so, there is no question,

When moving upward and onward,

They’d remain with me.

Me and The Greater Sea

(This is an expanded version of the poem “Conscious Gratitude” posted June 13 2016)

One day I looked out over the majestic body of water named, The Atlantic Ocean. Feeling very small, in comparison and lost in my own inadequate reverie,  I asked myself and the sea, “What’s so special about this body called me?”

And the sea responding rightly, through the channel of my heart said, “Ahhh, you see me!  Conscious awareness is your priceless human ability, though seeing past pain, a challenge, and finding gratitude, a choice.  Stop now and readjust your vision.”

Conscious Gratitude

Today, I stop, take notice,

And thank God for,

The gift of being AWARE.

Simply being conscious…

Of my hands that can write, touch, carry and hold,

My eyes that can see beauty, read, and connect with others,

My nose that allows me to breath in life…

Almost imperceptibly,

My feet which take me painlessly where I need to be,

My ears that hear beautiful music to brighten my day,

My voice which can speak my truth, express love, and pray…

For more gratitude.

So, whenever I’m fearful, frustrated, sad, or angry,

I choose gratitude,

Life’s natural elixir,

And remedy for much unneeded, unnecessary, unwelcome pain.

The abilities I have are gifts,

Not a given.

Today, I will be consciously grateful,

Especially so, for the one most precious gift,

Life.

Young Spirits Break Free

Shattered by a crushing blow to heart,

body, or spirit,

The ego left for nearly dead.

A lucky few surrender and cry out to God,

Thereby allowing the miracle of grace,

To sweep swiftly through their broken places,

Reigniting their soul’s flame,

Calming and drawing them into,

A dark inner wilderness,

Replete with emotional dragons, demons, and ghosts,

The likes of which few would care to know, or dare to go.

Yet turning back now,

Is to play pretend.

The trusted companion, grace,

Alights young soul travelers,

With joy, love, gratitude, peace and forgiveness,

Giving them strength to go the mile,

 Clearing and navigating,

The once hidden path of God’s Will.

Leading them down, out and all the way through,

To the (other), spiritually lighter side.

Young spirits freed,

Don their new wings.
